February 2018

On Friday 9th February the children presented an assembly for the parents showing them what they have learned about Growth Mindset over the past year.
Badger Class told us about famous people who have shown growth mindset.
Fox Class told us all about some 'happy accidents' which ended up being great inventions and sang us a super song composed by Mr House!
Squirrel Class explained the science behind the brain being able to develop and form stronger pathways.
Oak Class showed us the difference between a fixed and a growth mindset through a variety of scenarios which they acted out.

Resilience Video

On Friday 26th January the whole school worked in teams within their house groups. The challenge was for each house to design and make 6 water craft which would float for at least 20 seconds holding a 500g mass.
Groups within each house were given limited materials but were told they could start as many times as they wished.
One of the purposes of the exercise was for staff to assess the children on their resilience and perseverance. We were all incredibly impressed by how resilient the children were, when the first craft sank, they all remarked, 'we must try again'.
The children didn't become at all despondent and it was great to see the older children taking on leadership roles and encouraging the younger children to keep going.
All in all the children had a great afternoon and showed tremendous resilience.

Staff chose children who showed particularly good resilience, so a very special well done to : - Rose, Stanley, Charlie S, Lucy, Honor, Bobby, Atlas, Joseph M, Wilf, Isabelle and Belle.

Father Christmas came to visit all the children at school. It was lovely to hear all the children remembering their manners when thanking him for their present.

Fox Class enjoyed visiting Father Christmas and the 'reindonkeys' at Wymondham High School today.

Many thanks to NORFOLK CHRISTMAS TREES for donating our beautiful Christmas tree again this year.

On Wednesday 15th November our school choir took part in a joint schools' concert at Norwich Cathedral. The choir sang one song by themselves and two jointly with the other schools. Their singing was beautiful and behaviour, as always, exemplary!
What an amazing experience for all the children involved!

Tag Rugby

22 children from years 4,5 and 6 represented Spooner Row at the Cluster tournament on Tuesday 7th November.  We entered two teams.
Both Spooner Row teams played really well and managed to reach the semi finals.
This was a particularly good achievement as many of the Spooner Row children were from year four and had never taken part in a tag rugby tournament before.
One Spooner Row team made it to the final which they didn't win but have however qualified for the South Norfolk competition.
All the Spooner Row children showed great teamwork and enthusiasm throughout the competition and were a real credit to the school.

Harvest Celebration

Harvest Celebration
On Friday 13th October, we celebrated Harvest Festival at Spooner Row Church. All of the children brought along food to donate to the food bank. Many thanks to all the parents for your support with this.
Each of the classes contributed to the celebration.
Squirrel Class showed us their amazing tractor and scarecrow pictures made from foot and hand prints.
Fox Class performed a rap!
Badger Class played around with the letters of HARVEST and gave us lots of really interesting facts and Oak Class sang a beautiful song about harvest including sign language.

We all sang our favourite harvest songs very enthusiastically.

Miss Vyse awarded certificates to children who had been identified by the other children in their circle groups on Tuesday
The certificate for 'Being ambitious' went to Rafa from Red House for his amazing football skills and always giving 100%.
For 'Being fair' Airlie was selected by Green House for looking after someone upset on the playground and the certificate for 'Being connected' was awarded to Daniel  in Blue house for always helping others to improve their ideas.
Well done to all these children.

Easter Disco

Thank you to The Friends of Spooner Row for organising the annual Easter disco. There was a great turn out from nearly all the children and they all had fun playing the Easter themed games. The create an Easter bunny competiton showed off the children's creativity but the highlight of the evening was the 'hanging donut' game which the children loved.
Many thanks to Kelly and all her team for another fun filled evening.

Easter Service

Today we celebrated Easter at Spooner Row Church. All the children joined in singing our Easter songs beautifully.
Badger Class told the story of 'The Three Trees'. Fox Class recited an Easter poem, Squirrel Class showed us their lovely handwriting Easter eggs and Oak Class asked and answered questions they wanted to find out about the Easter story.

July 2016

On Friday 15th July, Michael Rosen , Executive  Director of Children's Services in Norfolk, visited our school having received a letter from Kieran and Elliott on behalf of the School Council.
The boys wrote to him to highlight our need for more space both inside and outside the school.
He was impressed with the letter which the boys wrote and was interested to hear of the school council's plans for improving the play facilities.
He promised to speak to the Mayor of Wymondham and to the planning department at County Hall.
Watch this space for further developments!

Spooner Row's Got Sporting Talent!
As part of our Sport Relief fundraising on Tuesday 22nd March, the students of Spooner Row exhibited their sporting talents in front of a live audience and judges.

We saw fabulous contributions covering a wide range of different sports from tap dancing and gymnastics through to hula-hooping and ballet. It was brilliant to see all ages of children being represented as pupils from all classes put themselves forward to display their skills.

The final results were as follows:

1st Place - Willow Wiseman and Megan Richards (gymnastics)
2nd Place (joint winners) - Noah Mitchell (ballet) and Ruby Lucchetti (modern dance)

Also we would like to say a huge thank you to the Oak Class students who organised and ran the event on the day: Kieran Sparkes, Lillie Burr, Maddy Bates, Ali Twort, Josh Bray, Elliott Mitchell and Romilly Feeney.

Duxford Trip
On Friday 18th March 2016, all of the children in Key Stage 2 were 'evacuated to Duxford'. They all looked fabulous in their traditional evacuee style costumes and carrying their WW2-style lunches in brown paper bags.

Upon arrival at the museum the children were split into two groups and they had the opportunity to explore the amazing exhibits in the various aircraft hangars. The children were very impressed by the sheer size of the planes and they loved getting the opportunity to actually go inside Concorde! The children saw Spitfires, Hawkers and Hurricanes as well as an Anderson Shelter and Battle of Britain exhibition.

All of the children also had the opportunity to take part in a roleplay whereby they imagined that they were actually in a wartime classroom as a newly-arrived evacuee. They practised their times tables, handwriting and spelling (with a dip pen and ink). Additionally, they had to recite some phrases in Standard English to practise their pronunciation, and remember to keep their elbows off the table - something many of them found very tricky!

We would like to thank the following people who came along on the day to help us - without you this wonderful trip wouldn't have been possible: Mrs Baker, Mrs Colchester, Mr House, Mrs Saint, Mrs Richards, Mrs Burr, Ms Foster and Mr Gowers.

Miss Vyse and Mrs Boroczky

Maths Calculation Evening
Wednesday 16th March
Dear Parents and Carers,
Many thanks to those of you who responded to the maths calculation evening consultation. The majority of parents would prefer the later time slot of 6 – 7pm, we are therefore planning to run the evening at that time.
We were delighted with the positive response and apologise to those parents whose preference was the earlier slot and we will look into preparing some maths calculations guidance for parents or arrange a further slot to suit.
Many thanks for your continued support and we look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on Wednesday 16th March at 6:00pm in the school hall.
May I remind you that the session is open to adults only.
