Primary Assessment
| Assessment | Explanation |
| Yr R - Reception Baseline | The reception baseline assessment is administered to all pupils within the first 6 weeks of them starting school. The assessments consist of short, interactive tasks designed to assess a child's early literacy, communication, language and mathematics skills and do not involve any pressure or pre-set expectations. Class teachers administer these sensitively once the children are settled into their new routines and children are unlikely to even know that they are completing an assessment and just enjoy the one-to-one time with their class teacher. |
| Yr 1 - Phonics Screening Check |
Pupils in Year 1 participate in the phonics screening check in June, which checks children's knowledge of the sounds they have learned in their phonics lessons. The check is completed by your child's normal class teacher and consists of children reading 40 words (a mixture of real and pseudo words). The children will already be used to low stakes assessment of their phonics knowledge throughout the year and we will do everything possible to make the experience of the check feel like normal practice. Any child who does not meet the threshold for passing the check is assessed again in the summer term of Yr 2 and will achieve additional support as needed to help them master their early reading skills. |
| Yr 2 - End of Key Stage 1 | As of the academic Year 2023-24, the end of Key Stage 1 assessments are no longer statutory. We assess our children in line with the rest of the school using termly progress tests, and will report your children's attainment at the end of Yr 2 via parent reports. |
| Yr 4 - Multiplications Check | Pupils access a digital platform to answer rapid fire times tables facts. Children are familarised with the platform before attempting the live test. They are only deemed to have 'passed' if they achieve full marks. The best way to support your child is by practicing with them at home and encouraging their use of Times Tables Rock Stars. |
| Yr 6 - End of Key Stage 2 | Children are formally assessed in Reading, writing, mathematics and grammar, punctuation and spelling (GPS) and science during May in year 6. Maths, reading and GPS are paper based externally marked tests. Teachers provide teacher assessments for writing and science. These results are reported in July and passed onto your child's secondary school to provide a baseline for progress. |
