Wednesday 25 January 2023 Let's Talk Birds On Wednesday morning, Allan from Talk Wildlife came in and talked to us about birds. He brought in feathers, nests and replica eggs. We got to handle a tiny hummingbird egg and a huge ostrich egg. He even brought in the egg of an extinct elephant bird and it was bigger than our heads!! We learnt that having feathers is what makes birds different to other animals. Mrs Newbery has signed up to the Big Schools’ Birdwatch and we will be making bird feeders next week before heading out to look for birds the following week.

Friday 20 January 2023 Exploring friction and amazing abstract art It has been a super week in Badger Class as they have been exploring friction in Science and trying to find the best material for a table football pitch. The children discussed the different properties of the materials and predicted which would be the most effective and why. Then we tested the different materials to see how easily a ball rolled on them. Children set up the experiment, took measurements and compared their results. What a super group of scientists!

Friday 20 January 2023 Oak Class Blog - 20th January 2023 This week, Oak Class have continued to explore the book 'Zoo' by Anthony Browne in English, problem solve with fractions in Maths and continue learning about the life of The Tudors in History.

Friday 13 January 2023 Magnet Art and More! We have continued our work on magnets and had a fun afternoon painting with them and testing the strength of different magnets. We used lots of magnetic objects like springs, keys, screws, paperclips and magnetic counters to create different patterns as we pulled them through the paint. We have also discovered that magnets work in water. We have a new magnet set in the classroom and we really enjoyed getting the cars to move without touching them.

Friday 13 January 2023 Spanish Mrs Scarborough from WHS came in this week to teach us some Spanish words. She started by telling us that lots of South American countries speak Spanish and that some of our favourite films are based in Spanish speaking countries. She then taught us how to say hello and goodbye in different ways, depending omn the time of day. We finished the session with a fun game of Who's hiding We had to guess the well known character behind the egg and say hello to them in Spanish.

Thursday 12 January 2023 Oak Class Blog - 13th January 2023 This week has been Art Week in Oak Class, where the children have been exploring the work of the expressionist movement. They started with creating their own version of an expressionist portrait, using pictures of their own 'shocked' expressions as a starting point.

Wednesday 11 January 2023 We are Architects! We read the book Iggy Peck, Architect and had a go at building our own tall buildings and towers. We worked in groups and used boxes, marshmallows, cocktail sticks, magnet sticks, metal balls and magnetic tiles. We measured each of the towers to see which group had built the tallest one.

Friday 6 January 2023 Let's Investigate Magnets We took the magnets outside to investigate which materials are magnetic. We had great fun testing objects around the playground and were surprised by some of our findings. We now know that not all metals are magnetic! We continued our work on magnets back in the classroom by making our own fishing games and mazes. We tested different materials to see which ones we could add to our fish shapes.

Friday 16 December 2022 Christmas Fun We had a fun last week of term. We played in Santa's Workshop, dressed up as elves and practised our wrapping and weighing skills. We also made sock snowmen, chocolate crispy cakes and star decorations. We ended the week with a joint Fox and Squirrel Christmas party.

Friday 16 December 2022 Super Swimmers A huge well done to Year 6 swimmers as they have shown excellent determination and improvement in their swimming sessions this term. The children have been commended by the swimming instructors for their positive attitude and manners during the sessions. Well done to all children involved for working so hard on such an important life skill.

Friday 16 December 2022 Oak Class Blog - 16th December 2022 I can't believe we are at the end of term already! It has been a wonderful term, with lots of highlights including the residential, Pudsey Day activities, active advent, science and art weeks and learning the Fresh Prince of Bel Air in music.

Thursday 15 December 2022 The Christmas Factory Badger Class have had a brilliant week performing their amazing Christmas play - The Christmas Factory. All the children worked so hard to learn their lines, perfect the songs and perform the dance routines. We really hope that all the parents enjoyed the performance and thank you to all those involved in making it possible. Well done Badger Class - you were fantastic!

Friday 9 December 2022 Santa Dash We loved wearing our Christmas jumpers and hats. We all took part in the Santa Dash on Friday afternoon. Who knew that you could have so much run running around the playground!

Friday 9 December 2022 Fox Class active advent Fox class has really enjoyed the active advent challenges this week. We have had an imaginary snowball fight, played Santa says, had a workout with Buddy the Elf and finished the week with a Santa dash! We are looking forward to next weeks fun.

Thursday 8 December 2022 Dissolving We have been investigating different materials to see which dissolve and which don't. We tested sand, coffee, tea leaves, sugar and salt. We ended the day by making jelly. We recorded our results in pictures.

Thursday 8 December 2022 Marble Run We have continued to practise our hammering skills by working together to make a class marble run. We had to hammer nails into the wood in diagonal lines and keep testing it to make sure that the marble was moving along and not getting stuck.

Friday 2 December 2022 A Visitor to Squirrel Class This afternoon Theo's daddy brought in a little puppy that they were looking after. We all got to stroke him and thought he was very cute!
