Thursday 12 January 2023 Oak Class Blog - 13th January 2023 This week has been Art Week in Oak Class, where the children have been exploring the work of the expressionist movement. They started with creating their own version of an expressionist portrait, using pictures of their own 'shocked' expressions as a starting point.

Friday 25 November 2022 Oak Class Blog - 25th November 2022 This week, Oak Class have enjoyed reading to the end of our thrilling class book 'Clockwork'. The Year 5 children produced their own games to test our knowledge of 'Clockwork', which the Year 6 enjoyed playing. They have also been securing their division knowledge using the chunking method in maths and started looking at the speeches of Greta Thunberg in English. In PE, they have been challenging themselves with different fitness tests, trying to improve their results each time.

Friday 18 November 2022 Oak Class Blog - 18th November 2022 This week has been all about 'Children in Need Day' in Oak Class. The children have been working in house groups to create some amazing activities for the younger children to experience, during our Children in Need Activity afternoon. As you can see from the photos below, the class did a brilliant job of devising, making and running their activities and the younger children loved taking part in them.

Friday 11 November 2022 Oak Class Blog - 11th November 2022 This week, Oak Class continued their English learning based on the book 'Clockwork' with a focus on writing a conversation between two of the characters. It has been multiplication week in Maths, where the children have reviewed and extended their knowledge of grid, extended and column multiplication.

Friday 21 October 2022 Oak Class Blog - 21st October 2022 I cannot believe it is half term already. It has been a jammed packed start to the year, with many highlights, in particular the residential. This week, Oak Class have been continuing to read 'The Nowhere Emporium' in English, exploring negative numbers in Maths and carrying out Sports Hall Athletics in PE.

Tuesday 18 October 2022 Anti-Bullying Ambassador Training Day On Wednesday 12th October, some Year 4, 5 and 6 children attended a days training to start their journey to becoming anti-bullying ambassadors for the school. The training was run by The Diana Award team and developed the children's understanding of what bullying behaviour is, the different types of bullying behaviour and how they can support someone who might be experiencing bullying.

Friday 30 September 2022 Oak Class Blog - 30th September 2022 This week has been all about our residential to Thorpe Woodlands. All the children had an amazing time and I know have many highlights from the trip. The children showed brilliant team work skills, great resilience and courage in stepping out of their comfort zone on some of the activities. I think we would all agree that the food was delicious too.

Friday 22 July 2022 Oak Class Blog - 22nd July 2022 I can't believe it is the end of the school year already and what a wonderful year it has been for the staff and children in Oak Class. We all agree that they have been a friendly, hardworking and enthusiastic class, who have also been brilliant student leaders. There have been so many highlights from this school year, too many to mention them all but the ones that spring to mind are the residential, Children in Need Day, Science Week, DT Week, sports day and our trip to High Altitude this week.

Friday 24 June 2022 Oak Class Blog - 24th June 2022 This week, has been 'Writing Week' in Oak Class. The children explored three different genres: balanced arguments, instructional writing and narrative writing. They were all really engaged, enthusiastic and imaginative in their writing, producing some wonderful pieces of work. Well done Oak Class for your dedication to writing!

Friday 10 June 2022 Oak Class Blog - 10th June 2022 Today, Oak Class went to Wymondham High School to experience Science and Art learning, in a high school environment. In Science, the class enjoyed exploring the PH values of different liquids, learning all about acidic, alkaline and neural substances. As you can see from the photos below, all the children really enjoyed being able to carry out investigations in a proper science laboratory.

Friday 27 May 2022 Oak Class Blog - 27th May 2022 During Design and Technology week, Oak Class explored the structure and function of buildings and then designed and created their own. Their brief was to create a bridge which would go across a river and could be opened to let tall boats through as well as closed to let pedestrians and vehicles across.

Friday 13 May 2022 Oak Class Blog - 15th May 2022 This week has been assessment week in Oak Class, with Year 6 carrying out their SATs tests and Year 5 their PIXL assessments. All the children should be congratulation on the positive attitude and great effort they showed this week. They were all resilient, hard-working and absolutely tried their best. I know that myself and all the staff at Spooner Row couldn't be prouder of them all. Well done Oak Class!

Friday 22 April 2022 Oak Class Blog - 22nd April 2022 Welcome to the summer term in Oak Class. As usual, the children have come back to school with enthusiasm, ready to learn. During this short week, we have started our new class text - 'The boy who sailed the world in an armchair' and looked at separating materials in Science. In Maths, Year 5 have focused on rectilinear shapes, while Year 6 have been exploring the area of triangles. For the next 6 weeks, Oak Class have a cricket coach to teach them cricket skills and they all really enjoyed their first session today.
