Oak Class Blog - 20th January 2023

This week, Oak Class have continued to explore the book 'Zoo' by Anthony Browne in English, problem solve with fractions in Maths and continue learning about the life of The Tudors in History.

English

Oak Class have been exploring different types of sentences to describe a visit to the zoo. This involved relative clauses, dialogue to show feelings and character descriptions using synonyms. They then wrote their own new start to the book 'Zoo' for an older audience of children. I think their story starts are better than the original!

Maths

This week, the children in Oak Class have continued their learning on fractions, decimals and percentages, in particular learning how to add and subtract fractions with different denominators and simplifying fractions using common denominators. I have been very impressed with how they have all grown in confidence, whilst working with fractions.

Science

Our new Science topic is Earth and Space and this week we looked at the planets and the relationship between the earth, sun and moon. The children carried out a series of games and activities to secure their knowledge of the planets and created their own models to show the link between the sun, earth and moon.

PE

While Year 5 continue to be brilliant in their swimming lessons, Year 6 have been carrying out some wonderful dance moves. They have been creating shapes. levels and pace to different forms of music. As a class, the children are also working on their tennis skills, ready for the summer.

Have a lovely weekend!
