Oak Class Blog - 2nd December 2022

This week, Oak Class have studied the speeches of Greta Thunberg, explored multiples and factors and started our active advent calendar.

English

Our new topic in English is persuasive speeches and this week Oak Class have explored the speeches of Greta Thunberg, the environmental activitist. We looked at the different parts of her persuasive speeches such as hook, scientific facts, call to action and explanation. The class also enjoyed learning parts from her speeches to perform.

Maths

This week, Oak Class have been looking at multiples, factors, common multiples and common factors and also their links to other number types such as prime numbers. The children have enjoyed using their knowledge in game situations and writing out their understanding using frayer models and factor bugs.

Design & Technology

Our current Design and Technology topic is arched structures and the children have explored different types of bridge structures such as beam and truss. They challenged themselves to create a paper bridge that would take different weights and realised that an arched structure would work best.

Active Advent Calendar

During December, the children of Oak Class are taking part in an active advent challenge. Each day they are at school in December, they will take on a different PE type activity. Yesterday the children carried out the 'Christmas tree climb' which involved carrying out different exercises from 12 to 1 and today they enjoyed the 'snowball fight' which involved using tennis balls to knock the snowman over. You can also do these activities at home so ask your child about them.

Wymondham Abbey Christmas Tree

Spooner Row Primary was asked to create decorations for the Christmas tree at Wymondham Abbey. Each class created stars and Oak Class made theirs from post-it notes. They look amazing! If you wish to see the tree, pop into Wymondham Abbey.
