Monday 16 October 2023 Autumn Week 3 This week, we have read the book ‘The Colour Monster Goes to School’. We have practised our breathing techniques. We have learned to tap under our eye and at the base of our thumb to help us calm down. We have also made sensory bottles.

Monday 11 September 2023 Week 1 We have had a great first week. Mrs Newbery has been impressed with how well we have settled.

Monday 11 September 2023 Day 3 Today we sorted behaviours into friendly and unfriendly. We also tapped out syllables with sticks, made paper aeroplanes and played on the bikes.

Friday 8 September 2023 Day 2 This morning we spent time exploring the outdoor area. We went on a colour hunt and then played with our new friends.

Thursday 7 September 2023 Squirrel Class 2023 - First Day What an amazing start to the year! No tears, excellent manners and a bucket load of kindness!

Saturday 15 July 2023 Floating and Sinking Fun We had lots of fun today testing out different objects to see which ones floated and which ones sank. We discovered that an orange with its peel on floats but sinks if you remove the peel! We came up with some really good explanations for why this happens.

Friday 14 July 2023 Under the Sea Artwork We have been very creative this week. We have used shaving foam and paint to make marble effect backgrounds for our sea pictures. We then cut out black silhouettes of sharks and dolphins and stuck them on top.

Friday 7 July 2023 The Moon Landing This week we have continued our work on space and have been looking at the moon. We have found out that the moon has craters due to asteroids and meteorites colliding with the surface. We have acted out the first moon landing and know that Neil Armstrong was the first man to step on the moon and Buzz Aldrin was the second. We know that they were on the moon for two hours and brought back moon rocks to study. They left a flag. We also found out their footprints are still there because there is no wind on the moon.

Wednesday 28 June 2023 Sports Day Fun Today was Sports Day and we all had lots of fun. We hope that you enjoyed watching our races. It felt good to win but it was our resilience and perseverance that made Mrs Newbery the proudest.

Monday 19 June 2023 Shadows We have been looking at shadows this week. We have found out that shadows are formed when light can't pass through an object. We had great fun drawing round our shadows outside. We used a torch and wooden toy people to investigate how shadows change throughout the day. We made the shadows longer and shorter. We have learnt the words transparent and opaque.

Monday 19 June 2023 Minibeasts We have continued our work on mini beasts and have sorted them in different ways. We have also identified the features of an insect and know that they have six legs and three body parts. Several of us have enjoyed searching for mini beasts in the outdoor area. We found lots of centipedes! In maths, we have made symmetrical patterns on butterfly wings. We have all drawn and painted pictures of butterflies and some of us have drawn bees with the help of Rob.

Thursday 15 June 2023 Art in Nature We collected lots of different natural materials and used them to make pictures and patterns.

Wednesday 14 June 2023 999 What's Your Emergency? As part of our People Who Help Us topic, we have been practising making 999 calls and asking for an ambulance. We have also acted out different scenarios in the fire and rescue role play.

Monday 12 June 2023 Under Arrest On Thursday Police Constable Helen came to school in her police van and we all got to go inside it and try on her handcuffs. She even put the lights and sirens on for us.

Wednesday 7 June 2023 Old Buckenham Country Park Today, we headed off to Old Buckenham Country Park and we took our mums and dads with us. We met up with Allan and had lots of fun pond dipping, mini-beast hunting and looking at nature in general. In the afternoon, we went on a picture hunt, drew pictures of the things we'd seen and played on the play park. As you can see from the photos, we had a great time.

Thursday 25 May 2023 Our Castle Day Today was our Castle Day. We all came dressed as knights and re-enacted The Battle of Hastings. Mrs Newbery was impressed with how much information we had remembered. We also took part in a quest where we had to work in teams to rescue knights captured by the mean king. In the afternoon, we had a jousting competition, a banquet and took part in some medieval dancing. We particularly enjoyed the chicken drumsticks, bread, cheese, apples and carrots.

Wednesday 24 May 2023 Plants and Leaf Bashing This afternoon, we took our learning outside. We planted sunflower seeds, did some leaf bashing and drew and labeled pictures of plants. We can name the roots, stem, petals, flower and leaves.

Friday 12 May 2023 'Sunflowers' by Squirrel Class We have painted pictures of sunflowers based on the famous picture by Van Gogh. We have looked carefully at the shape and colour of the flowers and have taken our time with our painting. We have dabbed the paint to create a petal effect. Everyone that has seen them has commented on how good they are.

Wednesday 10 May 2023 3D Map of Spooner Row We made a 3d map of Station Road in Spooner Row using the toy railway, box model houses, felt and a roadway. We all stood up and looked at it from above before drawing our own maps on paper.

Friday 5 May 2023 King Charles III Coronation On Thursday, we had our own class coronation day celebration. We drew portraits of King Charles, made chocolate crispy cakes and sandwiches, and had a mini street party with games. We think that you will be impressed with our drawings of the king.

Tuesday 2 May 2023 Castles This week, we have been looking at the different parts of a castle and have made models of castles and labelled a castle picture. We have learnt the words portcullis, moat, drawbridge, keep, bailey and motte.

Thursday 27 April 2023 Writing Stay and Play A big thank you to all the parents that came to our Stay and Play session on Wednesday. We really enjoyed sharing our learning with you and we hope you now have a better understanding of how we learn to write.

Wednesday 19 April 2023 Maps We read the book ‘Me on a Map’ and used Google Earth to zoom in and look at Great Britain, England, Norfolk and Spooner Row. We then made our own maps of the classroom and used a map of the Quiet Garden to locate hidden objects.

Tuesday 18 April 2023 Jack and the Beanstalk We have been looking at the story of Jack and the Beanstalk, as an introduction to our topic on ‘Castles’. We have acted out the story using a story sack, have planted bean seeds, measured beanstalks using footprints, found and ordered numbered beans and talked about how Jack felt when he had to sell his cow. We have also used Google Earth to locate Great Britain, Norfolk, Norwich, Wymondham and Spooner Row. We have made our own map of the classroom and used a map of the quiet Garden to locate hidden objects.

Thursday 30 March 2023 Archery Today we had an archery session with Premier Sport. It was really fun and we all managed to hit the target.

Thursday 23 March 2023 Roarr! Trip This week saw us all head off to Roarr!! for some dinosaur fun. We had a great time spotting all the dinosaurs, climbing on the equipment and most of all, running around the indoor play area. We wrote recounts of our trip and impressed all the adults. Mrs Newbery said that we were a delight to take out on a trip.

Monday 13 March 2023 Science Week This week has been Science Week and we have taken part in lots of science experiments around the theme of ‘Connections’. We have Learnt about the connections within our bodies by constructing a life size skeleton. We have learnt about Alexander Graham-Bell and how the telephone was invented, which helped connect people together. We then made our own paper cup telephones and tested them out. We discovered that big cups work better than small cups. We explored simple electrical circuits and discovered that the circuit needs to be fully connected for the bulb to light up. On Friday, we shared our work with Year 6.
